One of the specialties in the Roussillon is its Vins Doux Naturels production and in particular, Muscat de Rivesaltes and Rivesaltes. We also produce AOP (Appellation d’Origine Protegée) Côtes du Roussillon and Côtes du Roussillon Villages wines. A range completed by IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) wines
The tradition of the Vins Doux Naturels
Les Vins Doux Naturels are wines mutated with a vinic alcohol base. This operation enables the alcoholic fermentation to be halted in order to preserve part of the grape’s natural sugar content. The fortified wines created can be matured in reducing conditions, (bottles) or in an oxidative environment, (casks and wooden barrels).
Since 1909 at Arnaud de Villeneuve, generations of winegrowers, cellar men and cellar masters have been passing their blending and ageing secrets from generation to generation. We continue this tradition for our loyal customers and wine lovers generally to enjoy.
The Muscat de Rivesaltes
Muscat de Rivesaltes requires very special care and attention in the vineyard. The 2 grape varieties, Muscat d’Alexandrie and Petit Grains complement each other with different aromatic characteristics. The mastered art of making and blending this wine has made it possible to produce a fresh and delicious Muscat de Rivesaltes for connoisseurs everywhere to enjoy.
The Rivesaltes Grenat and Rosé
The Rivesaltes Grenat and rosé are made exclusively from Grenache Noir. Processed in a non-oxidising environment, they are protected from oxidization to preserve their characteristic fresh fruity aroma. They are quickly bottled after being processed.
The Rivesaltes Ambrés
The Rivesaltes Ambrés clear copper coloured, and Tuilés, a darker mahogany colour, are produced from Grenache blanc, Grenache gris and Grenache noir, Macabeu. The Muscat Petit Grain and Alexandrie are accepted as grape varieties that may be added. The yield is limited to 30 hl per hectare. These wines must be matured for at least three years before being sold commercially. The wine is kept in an oxidising environment open to the air in large stone vats, wooden casks or barrels. It is through this process of oxidization that the wine develops its complex aromas a mix of candied fruits, dried fruits and spices...
We conserve one of the most wonderful collections of vintages in oak barrels in our wine cellars. This is a treasure that we love to share and is waiting for you to discover and to taste!
The Côtes du Roussillon and Villages
The red and rosé Côtes du Roussillon wines are created from selections of Grenache noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Carignan. The white wines are blended from Grenache blanc, Macabeu, Roussane, Marsanne and Vermentino.
Côtes du Roussillon Villages are produced from Grenache noir, Mourvèdre and Syrah. They come from the best areas and their yield does not exceed 30 hl/hectare.
